In 2001, three women from Manchester, New Hampshire -- Raven Duclos, Katie Boyd, and Beckah Boyd – created an all-woman ghost hunting group. For the past 7 years, Ghost Quest has been investigating haunted places in order to find explanation, gather evidence, and debunk unusual and inexplicable events.
During a sunny October day at the Valley Street Cemetery (est. 1840) in Manchester, NH – one of the most active places they have explored – they explain their mission and talk about some of their eeriest experiences. Let’s begin with the tale of the Smyth Mausoleum.
The imposing mausoleum sits high atop a steep bluff. Here, two entities have been seen, heard, and felt. “People claim to have seen the figure of a man,” says Raven, “and have hear scratching and loud banging at the doors.”
Katie adds, “People have felt someone trying to push them over the edge.”

“The team members at Ghost Quest are striving, through research, documentation. hard evidence and experiences, to open up others to the possibility of the paranormal truly existing. We hope that our work will someday prove the truth about spirits and paranormal phenomena. That they exist, that they are communicative, that they sometimes need help and that they are very rarely negative. We also strive to educate others on how to deal with spirits in a real and beneficial manner. We are not thrill seekers, (well maybe a little :) ) but people on a quest...a Ghost Quest. We turn no one away who needs our help and as much as possible, with the exception of traveling and complex clearings our services are free.” – GQ Mission Statement.

Raven goes on to explain how one night, she heard a woman’s voice telling her to “get the f@#! away from the door!” She checked to see if one of the other investigators had called her, and to her surprise they were of working in another area. Raven feels it was the disembodied voice of a prostitute who died under mysterious conditions in the 1970s. Her body had been found at the bottom of the ravine just below the mausoleum’s ledge. Whether it was murder or suicide or accident has never been proved. What’s even more mysterious is the fact they actually captured the EVP of the unearthly voice.
“An EVP stands for electronic voice phenomena,” Beckah explains. “That’s when you take an audio recording device and you can actually hear spirits voice on it.” You can actually hear EVPs on the Ghost Quest website at www.ghostquest.org and even see photos, video, and other collections of evidence.
